Dr Fowler has particular interests in day procedure surgery, ophthalmology and health informatics.

Professional Experience
Dr Fowler completed his medical degree in 2012 at the University of Otago in New Zealand and followed this with training in hospitals across Auckland. Alongside his training, he completed postgraduate studies in health informatics at Auckland University. 

Moving to Brisbane in 2020, Sam completed a year-long fellowship at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Here he provided anaesthetic services across the emergency and elective case mix, was involved in clinical informatics projects, and supervised and rostered placement students.

Sam became a consultant at the Surgical, Treatment and Rehabilitation Service (STARS) in 2021 after gaining membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. 

In addition to providing perioperative and anaesthetic services, he is currently the digital lead for the Anaesthetic Department at STARS. Sam also sits on a number of digital governance committees for Queensland Health.

Outside of work Sam enjoys exploring beautiful Queensland with his family.
