Professional Experience
Originally from northwest England, Ed completed his medical training at the University of Dundee, Scotland in 2006. He worked for the NHS in Manchester for four years, where he obtained his MRCP diploma before emigrating to Australia in 2010 to work in Emergency Medicine. After settling in Brisbane, Ed successfully applied for the Queensland Anaesthetic Rotational Training Scheme, completing his anaesthetic training in 2017 and becoming a Fellow of the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetist (ANZCA).

Ed holds an appointment as a Senior Staff Specialist Anaesthetist at the Princes Alexandra Hospital where he is the medical lead of the pre-admission clinic. He is committed to service improvement and patient-centered care and is currently overseeing the redesign of the pre-surgical patient journey. Ed in an honorary Senior Lecturer with University of Queensland and is a past chair of the ANZCA Queensland Continuing Education Committee and has organised, presented at, and chaired several regional and national events.

Other Interests
Ed has a love for keeping healthy, travel, languages, good food and wine. During a 2022 trip of South America Ed met his husband, Seb, a chef, in Medellin, Colombia. They were married in Colombia in 2023 and live in Brisbane with two cats, speaking a mixture of Spanish and English at home. They enjoy travelling together and attending music events.

Ed is currently the president of QPP, a not-for-profit organisation working to improve the lives of people living with HIV and prevent the spread of HIV and other STIs in Queensland. He is passionate about the work QPP does to reduce the harm of HIV stigma, reduce the spread of HIV via peer-led sexual health services and to promote the use of anti-retroviral treatments, which allow people living with HIV to lead normal lives without fear of passing the virus on to others.
